คำพยานประพฤติเหตุที่แวดล้อมกรณีย์จะฟังลงโทษคนร้ายนั้น ต้องเปนคำพยานที่เชื่อมต่อกันได้สนิทสนมปราศจากมลทินแลข้อสงสัยต่าง ๆ แต่ถ้าคำพยานนั้นแตกต่างกันเจือปนไปด้วยมลทินฟังไม่ได้สนิท ยังไม่พอจะลงโทษจำเลยได้
