ก่อนเข้ารับหน้าที่ สมาชิกสภาเทศบาลต้องปฏิญาณตนในที่ประชุมสภาเทศบาลว่า จะรักษาไว้และปฏิบัติตามซึ่งรัฐธรรมนูญแห่งราชอาณาจักรไทย ทั้งจะซื่อสัตย์สุจริตและปฏิบัติหน้าที่เพื่อประโยชน์ของท้องถิ่น
