(๒) พ้นจากความเป็นพระภิกษุ
(๓) ลาออก
(๔) สมเด็จพระสังฆราชมีพระบัญชาให้ออก ในกรณีที่กรรมการมหาเถรสมาคมพ้นจากตำแหน่งก่อนวาระ สมเด็จพระสังฆราชอาจทรงแต่งตั้งพระราชาคณะรูปใดรูปหนึ่ง เป็นกรรมการแทน กรรมการซึ่งได้รับแต่งตั้งตามความในวรรคก่อนอยู่ในตำแหน่งตามวาระของผู้ซึ่งตนแทน
